Equipment: TS-480SAT (100W) and HF-9V (remote).
Like last year, I didn't plan on putting in this much time. But once I got
going, I switched from just handing out a few QSOs, to seeing if I could make
200 QSOs, to seeing if I could make 500 QSOs.
I agreed to every QSY request and his year I kept track of them. There were a
total of 27 and 10 were successful on the first try. Of the remaining, some of
them I heard, but they couldn't hear me. Most of them I worked later in the
contest on the requested new band. I also had 2 sked requests, and made 1 of
them.
Experience in the CQWW, ARRL 160, CQ160 told me that I don't get out much
farther than 2500km on 160m with the HF9V. There isn't much DX within 2500km
from here, so I spent very little time on 160m, 5 minutes tops. I did listen a
couple of times and could hear some EU and Caribbean stations. I called a few,
but new it would be in vain.
I was surprised at how much I worked on 80m, including 19 new band countries
and 2 new countries on CW. Probably about half of the QSOs were from running.
Unfortunately the HF9V is tuned for the CW part of the band so there won't be
any Q's on 80m in the ARRL DX SSB in a couple of weeks.
I started running EU on 40m around 1930Z on Saturday and Sunday. I probably
could have started earlier on Sunday, but I wasn't on the air from ~1800Z to
1930Z. I made 100 more Q's on 40 this year than last year.
Fewer Q's on 20m this year, but more countries.
Last year I worked 209 stations on 15m. I doubt I heard 209 stations on 15m
this year! CQing on 15m did't bring many stations and I was rarely picked up
by the CW skimmers.
Like 160m, I didn't spend much time on 10m except for spinning the dial after
being asked to QSY to 10m. I did check a few times on Sunday and heard a total
of 10 stations: PJ4X, XR2K, CE2MVF and CE3AA around 1615Z and PP1CZ, NP2N, and
KP2M around 1915Z. I called them all a few times but came up empty.
Best DX? Probably the ZS that called on 20m or the 9K that called on 40m, or
the ZM that I worked on 15 or the RT0 or DP1 that I worked on 20m.
16 4-band Q's (80m-15m) compared to 24 last year (40m-10m, HF9V wasn't working
on 80m).
