Yaesu FT-817ND, Buddipole vertical dipole - beachside portable.
I was looking forward to making a lot of mainland QSO's on 20 (and possibly 15)
between 1800-2300, but the opening to NA on 20 from out here was minimal - I
managed only one non-KH6 contact in the first hour. Most mainland stations were
S3 or weaker with occasional improvement, but nowhere near good enough for my
setup. I made some JT65 contacts hoping for the band to open, but even on JT65
most mainland stations were coming in at -18 or weaker. I called it a day and
packed up about 2330.
I made a bunch of CQ calls, but found only one spot for me from a 7-land
skimmer station at an anemic 3 dB.
I hope conditions will be better out here for SSB next weekend!
