A fun afternoon. First satellite QSO was with VE5AA via ISS packet digipeater
Saturday (25 June) afternoon, using only a Kenwood TH-D72A HT & Elk 2m/70cm
log periodic. HF propagation not too good until later in the day, and I did OK
on satellites when I wasn't trying to work SSB or FM on cross-country passes.
Using packet on ISS & NO-84 was fun, easier than fighting crowds on other
satellites.
My QTH was a picnic area in the Kaibab National Forest, along old US-66 between
Williams and Flagstaff in northern Arizona. FT-897D/Buddipole for HF & 6m,
an Elk 2m/70cm log periodic with various radios (FT-817NDs, TH-D72A, IC-2730A,
KG-UV9D) for satellite work. Digital QSOs via satellite made using APRS
messages from TH-D72A/Elk combination. All on battery power, either battery
packs or a 12V/24Ah jumpstart battery.
My score includes 4 digital QSOs via satellite (ISS, NO-84), and 3 phone QSOs
via satellite (LilacSat-2, SO-50, XW-2F).
73!
