Comments:
The A. VOLTA contest is one of the best appointments each year, year by year.
Each year it's better than the one before.
This year we where happy to use such a great call as IY1A, honoring G.
Marconi.
IY1A will be on air for more contests until the end of this year. So, don't be
afraid if we haven't had a QSO by now.
The prop was a nightmare, i.e. no US on 40m at night. Just some on 80m. But
there we have had a early switch box failure. So we moved on higher bands too
early.
The 20m band was open until very late. The 15m was marginal. The 10m band was
... almost dead.
The radios, two K3, other hardware and the software went performing very well.
Just some sudden glitches that aroused on times where solved in a blink of an
eye. All was instrumental to keep us alerted and asleep :-)
At times it was hard to find correspondents and someone went unacknowledged due
to very weak signals. The multiply station operator was quite asleep, but the
runner went falling down on times. The number of QSOs and multipliers speak
itself.
The usual group of friends went operating with a pleasant add on: IZ5RKW,
Fulvio. He was at first experience, but was instrumentals as each one other.
Better: his Pisa slang, the real Italian language , was underlining several
topic events. Making who was there at the time amused and smiling. We assured
him that the prop was never so bad as this year number and figures teach. I am
pretty sure we will have him back for a check of this.
Thanks to all for the nice time on the radio!
Thanks to the Volta Contest Committees, particularly to Frank I2DMI, for this
nice opportunity. For us was a pleasure, now for him it's a hard work.
Last but not least ... even if we all struggled and mourned 24 hours the prop
... We had to know all about it. Since when, one week before, another @IQ1RY
Team had done the ARI DX International: even with somewhat poorest prop
conditions.
I hope to live enough to see AGN big numbers as some years ago (iw1ayd).
73 de IY1A @IQ1RY
IZ5RKW Fulvio, IW1QN Federico, IZ1PLH Salvo, IW1AYD Salvo.
PS CU all in the next, the 51th, A. Volta Contest ... if not before!!!
