Comments:
This was my best effort yet. I actually had a strategy on how I was going to
operate the bands and what my sleep patterns were going to be. Stayed fairly
close to the plan. I errected a GAP Voyager this past week to give me a 160m
option since I don't have any trees on the property over 45 feet and purchased
a fiberglass push up pole to provide the center for my Carolina Windon which
had a V configuration (not ideal). Now it is flat as called out in the
installation instructions.
All equipment worked without failure. I thought the bands were good as could
be with where we are in the cycle. Noise levels on 80 and 160 where much
better than anticipated. I will be interested to hear what others thought but
I felt propogation on most all the bands favored the NE and Midwest. In most
cases when I was heads up with stations from CT, NH, MA, NY, NJ, PA, and OH, I
would be initially beat out. This was the case in the Caribbean, Pacific and
in Western EU. I did feel an advantage in Central and South America and
Eastern EU.
It was interesting to see the number of non-K/VEs working low, Out-of-Band
edges without split to work the VEs only. Not sure the reasoning.
Was able to run and at goods rate at least once on 10m, 15m, and 20m. Had a 4
hour spell on 15m Sunday morning where I averaged over 100 qs an hour.
Thoroughly enjoyed the contest and it had been four years since I put forth a
serious effort in this contest. I will look forward to duplicating the effort
next year.
