Comments:
Typically I don't enter this contest given the lack of January tropo and Es this
far North. We had a large storm on Friday and the antennas iced up until Sunday
afternoon. Once the ice thawed, I worked a few and enjoyed my time helping
others get the FN74 mult on 2 bands. I mostly did meteor scatter given my
remote Eastern QTH. I missed the best rox Sunday morning, but when the ice was
off the aluminum, I did a few randoms in the non-optimal afternoon and evening
periods. QSOS were as follows: 6 FSK441 MS QSOs (2-2m and 4-6m); 4 CW QSOs
(3-2m and 1-6m; 1 ISCAT B QSO (6m).
The highlight was definitely decoding the best meteor ping I have ever
received. While working Mike WB2RVX on 2m FSK, I got a 29 dB hit on FSK441
message TX3! As Bobtwo, KD2RDH commented on ON4KST Chat "A
schoolbus!"
I wish I had spread a few more points around, but icing happens and the SWR
goes up way too high and the antennas get very deaf.
Mixed with some great snowshoeing on Saturday and a top notch movie later, all
while my station was down, it all made for a good weekend.
