Comments:
This was a shakedown for a newly erected 80 meter 4 square. Thanks to a number
of very smart and ambitious friends, we made the antenna a reality in just a few
months.
I'm a DXer by trade and that follows me into contests. To put it briefly and
mildly, my eyes were opened wide with the performance of the antenna. I've
never been able to run for any length of time on 80 before. Now it is
possible!
There were so many highlights. One was a Zone 34 QSO with SU90IARU in the
last hour. Having a super operator on the other end made all of the
difference.
I missed 10 zones, but heard 4 of them. VK3EGN in 30, VK6VZ in 29, and
RT0C in 19 were all heard chasing JA stations. I also heard 8Q7DV in 22 in
the laat hour, just as he was moving to 160. I never heard them otherwise.
SO, I worked NO VK stations for the first time in memory. Actually I worked
only one ZL, that being ZL4YL. I also did not work any ZS for Zone 38.
Nothing was heard from zones 18, 23, 24, 26, or 28.
I did my first CQWW CW in 1959, and was proud of my 7 QSOs. This is a party
that I always enjoy. Thanks to all of you for the QSOs.
