Field Day style operation in the backyard to be able to enjoy the great
weather we were experiencing.
First time out with using the ICOM 706 MKIIG. Never a good idea to learn how
to use a radio during a contest. That combined with really terrible conditions
at the start made for slow going.
Got into the swing of it, however. A few little oddities with the radio, the
toughest was figuring out how to zero beat. Just could not get the hang of it.
Sometimes it would seem like I had to tune up a couple hundred hertz to get the
stations to hear me. Otherwise, not a terrible experience for such a small
radio.
Slow going on the overnight, so pulled the plug about 2 AM local for a few
hours sleep then finished up the final 2 hours, again, terrible conditions and
very slow going.
Otherwise, I ended up with a nice portable set-up pretty much de-loused and
had
some fun in the process.
