Comments:
I really dislike SSB contesting, and the sweepstakes more than most.
I was getting really frustrated with my inability to be heard. I'd see an
S9+20 station and give them a call, only to be ignored. After only 30
contacts, I called it a night, but set my alarm clock to "too darn
early" figuring that I'd be able to pull a lot of contacts on 80M. I
couldn't hear hardly anyone and when I did hear them, they didn't come back to
me - just kept calling CQ. After an hour, with only a single contact, I gave
up and stepped outside for a little fresh air. I glanced over at my antenna
and noticed that my 80 & 40 wires weren't visible where I expected them to
be - I found them in a nifty pile on the ground. The rope holding them up in
my tree finally wore out and they were unceremoniously dumped...
A bit later I went to church, then out to eat with the XYL and a little
shopping. I came home, took a couple of hours and got my wires back in the
tree. Surprise surprise surprise, all of a sudden people on 15/40/80 were
coming back to me, and even complimenting me on my signal.
I'd had enough and decided when I reached 100 QSOs, I'd stop for the night. I
pushed a little past that to make over 10K points. A poor showing (even for
me), but I did tell you I really hate SSB contesting and Nov SS more than most.
