Comments:

This contest had two very different personalities -- the first half was mean and
forbidding, but the second half was open and welcoming. Well, maybe not fully
open but better than the first 12 hours.

Opened on 20M and had a good few hours, then the bottom fell out. Nothing on
10M, and 15M was weak with very little workable over the pole to Europe.
Fortunately, by Saturday afternoon 20M was stronger and stayed open well into
the night. 40M was pretty good in the evening and very good after 0600z here.
80M sounded quite strong but there wasn't as much to work as I had hoped.

Managed to smash my previous-best from 2011, despite the so-so conditions.
RI1ANT on 40M was a wonderful surprise in the final half hour, as was ZS2NF
just before midnight local (0700z) on 20M.

Hope the WRTC teams had a great time. I worked as many as I could find, and
stayed in the chair further into the morning than I otherwise might have,
calling CQ to the east in case they still needed Zone 2 on 80M and 40M. All 59
teams did an amazing job with 100W on poor bands (at least they were poor on
the West Coast, but perhaps not from MA -- was amazed to see so many 4,000-plus
QSO totals). Congratulations to all.

After 14 years, we said goodbye to our much-loved family dog Tippy on Thursday
evening. She was my constant companion on so many back-yard projects and a
remarkable presence in our lives. It was a very sad day and we will miss her
very much. A boy and his radio, and his dog. We sure had a great run, Tip.
