Comments:
This one was tough! Bummer prop for most of the day with many stations barely
audiable. But the big problem was a sudden wind storm that ripped through here
Friday night with 40 mph gusts. Apparently that did something to a nearby power
pole to loosen a ground, an insulator or a pole pig. As soon as I turned on the
radio this morning the IC-7600 dsiplay screen was alive with interference spikes
dancing from side to side. The S meter stayed firmly pegged at 20 - 30 over S9,
depending upon which band I selected. During the day it would disipate slightly
making me think there was some hope only to return in a short while to once
again ruin any hope of making a run with a bunch of weak stations calling.
Of course this happened on a weekend so there was nobody at the local power
company office to register my complaint so I had to just sit there and get beat
up by outrageous fortune all day. I want to tell ya that puts new meaning on
how tiring a SSB contest can be. Any chance of a do over on the CW event?
