Comments:
Because I had a few things to do this weekend that were going to interrupt the
flow of 'things' anyway, I fired up the Packet and chased spots for the most
part. Although we have better 'numbers' in the Solar Department, I could not
find a writing utensil so I will NOT be writing home about the conditions....
Started out on 10 as it sounded like it had real promise but did not last long
and 15 was my money band as it were. Both mornings did not produce the EU
openings I had hoped for here...second morning was better and I had to quit
early on the first morning and was out of service for seven plus hours.
15 to EU on Sunday morning was ALWAYS better than 20m - I only worked a few
until a micro opening 2 hours before the end on 20. Then of course EVERY North
American was in the exact pileup that I was....mmmm funny how that happens.
I used the packet and its a good way to keep track of what's on all bands so as
to make your "Is it worth it to change over?" plans. But by Sunday afternoon,
the mult colors were 'ordinary' on everything but 20.
Packet spots make challenging pileups grow bigger - but BAD Packet spots were
geometric. I don't know how many times I heard DX tell NAs DO YOU KNOW WHAT MY
CALL IS? to the mob who was continually duping them. I got to sit in pileups a
lot longer than most of you so I heard the correct call easily announced a TON
of times. GM5X was getting frustrated as someone kept posting G5MX to the
clusters over and over and the Dupers were lining up like lemmings to pile on.
HQ2W was hosting a son or grandson in the shack and at various times the 12
year old was on running the pileup.... Non Packet Users would wander on to the
big pileup (and I thought that the kid was doing pretty darned good) and would
start complaining about 'WHAT's your CALL??? stuff" in their surly-I Never
Wait For No One Attitude Voice. This was especially irritating to me because
the youngster WAS saying his call EVERY SINGLE TIME He Made a QSO. Sure he has
an accent but guess what 'big shot' - so do you to them. I was in that pileup
for about 20 minutes and there were three wise achers that made the same
comment. I think grandpa heard and 'relieved' the youth partly in
embarrassment I suspect, but gee wiz gang give the kid a break...and you wonder
where are the youth in our game?
Only worked 86 Unique DXCC Entities.
9 weeks - 9 contests....think I am going to take next week off....
