Comments:
I really enjoyed this contest. Conditions were quite good, even for the whining
Pacific Northwest. I feel like I've been visiting with a couple of hundred
close friends. It's amazing to watch 3 skimmers on the Reverse Beacon network
simultaneously spot your call, with a signal strength indication, with one CQ
on a new frequency. I tried out a prototype Elecraft KPA500 amplifier for this
contest. I'm finding it very easy to get used to a no-tune amplifier! The P3
panadaptor with its waterfall display made it much easier to find clear spots
to call CQ and gave me a much better awareness of nearby run stations.
Hope to be in a new QTH next year with more room for antennas and less city
noise for the low bands.
I tried a little more technology this year: Ran "unlimited" to see how the
skimmer beacon network works, and I'm very impressed.
Everything seemed to work well this year. K3, prototype KPA500 amplifier, P3
panadaptor, microHAM microKeyer, N1MM logger worked well without any fuss.
Sweepstakes is such a civilized contest! Everyone has a chance to run a bit,
the pileups aren't awfully deep (unless you're in NT or NE), and there are lots
of people to work. This is one of my favorite contests. See you next year!
