I "started" the contest by calling CQ Test -- hoping to generate a
reversebeacon.net report for my new phased array. I was surprised when a VE3
came back to me. We exchanged signal reports, and he was good enough to give
me another report when I flipped the array. Another CQ Test and another VE3!
And this one asking for a serial number. After completing the QSO, I connected
the dots. Having been away from the hobby for something on the order of 12 years
prior to the 2008 IARU contest, I had forgotton about the RAC Canada Day
contest. Activity seemed good (and much more than what I remember from back in
the day), and it was fun to step away from work at midday today to make some
contest QSOs! I'm already planning to make a more significant effort next
year.
