Comments:
About two months ago KY4F, AA4U and I had planned this to be a serious M/2 HP
effort; however it all fell apart in the week leading up to the contest. Both
of my 87a amplifiers had to be sent back to the factory for lightening damage
repair, and neither would be ready in time. Next, KY4F had to cancel due to
problems at work. On Friday, AA4U got snagged for some Saturday morning duty
at his place of employment and couldn't make it over until Saturday afternoon.
I got hung up with a major proposal earlier in the week that netted me about
nine hours of sleep in the preceeding three days. After weighing our options,
AA4U and I decided that we would still put in a token M/S LP appearance but
nothing even remotely serious. When considering all our options, I was
reminded of the following saying: "If we had some eggs, we could have ham and
eggs, if we had some ham..." :-)
I did mostly S&P for this one. I did get into a nice run of JA's and a UA0 on
20M on Friday evening right after the contest started. The signals were good
until the band faded out on me. I switched to 40M and picked off a bunch of
loud EU's calling CQ with no problems. I stayed with 40 until EU sunrise and
worked pretty much everything I could decode but could never really get a run
going on 40. With all the participation and great RTTY OP's in Alabama, I
chalked it up to the fact that those guys had already satisfied the demand for
the AL mult... :-) I was very happy with my "AVG PTS / QSO" of 2.31
indicating that my LP signal was still good enough to net me plenty of DX.
:-)
