That was close to a washout, but then again so was last July. Poor 20M
conditions compounded by very high local B.C. Hydro power line noise that even
the MFJ-1026 wouldn't knock down. 15M and 10M (1 QSO) were on par with last
year.
Guess I should have pushed harder on 10M but time is money and virtually
nothing was heard when I was there, even pointing to W6.
Low bands were strong. The pair of 80M elevated verticals bagged 7 more
sections than last year's delta loop on exactly the same Q count. Signals were
strong and clear, with not much atmospheric noise to fight through. The 40M
half-square array did all right, too, finding 41 mults (same as last year, and
2 more than 2006).
Seemed like good activity with mults up, though Qs were down -- particularly on
20M where I fell about 50 shy of last year.
Went SO2R all the way for the first time. Didn't see a rate increase (mostly
due to running second-radio 15M on a 40M half-square and 40M not being useful
until evening) but learned a bit about timing. Ran ICE filters and the FT-2000
on 20M and 80M, and the FT-920 on 15M and 40M. That combination worked very
well for yesterday's band openings. There's a slight desense on 20M when
transmitting on 40M, so will add extra 20M and 40M stubs next time.
