Comments:
It was great to get back into contesting! Although band conditions were not
great, it was good to see the Saturday afternoon opening on 15M. Amazing
simultaneous East-West (Oceania and East Coast) propagation on 20M and 40M.
Both 40M and 80M were very noisy in NW AZ. 160M dipole stayed coiled up on the
ground along with an occasional Mohave Green. Yaesu FT-1000D and FT-1000 Mark V
were powered by a diesel generator. TR log did great job until the Multi Network
came out of sync at QSO No. 929 (likely result of one very slow computer).
Struggeled with 40M SSB, then discovered 40 meter beam was 4:1 in phone band
and protection circuit was limiting finals to 7.5 watts. SSB Op. K7INL cranked
up the phone contacts while CW Op Bob saved our bacon despite high daytime
temperature and battles with bugs at night. Just prior to the contest, Bob
(assisted by his capable XYL, Susie) finished installing the K8IA key-click mod
in the FT-1000D . . . sounds great and it was worth the effort. Claimed score
includes 50Pt. E-file. Thanks to all for the fine Qâ??s.
