Comments:
A very fun contest with very poor band conditions. Seems these solar
winds sure do like to hit on contest weekends.
Saturday was spent working mostly lower 48. I did not work into, or
start hearing anything EU way until hearing, and then working, ZC4LI
around 0430z. I worked several stations in Russia and only picked up
EU here and there thru 0800z, when I finally decided to take a break.
When I returned to 20 meters at 1430z, I was only hearing two stations,
those being RD3A and only one lower 48 station, N4ZZ, who had a pretty
good signal into central Alaska actually.
The band had lots of QSB but I was able to continue to hear and work
some EU stations. Probably the biggest surprise was the last hour of
the contest when EU started to pick up and the last 30 minutes were fun
as 20 came to life and many EU stations were easily workable. I heard
two EA stations, EA6BH and EA1AKS, but I was only able to work EA1AKS.
So in the last hour, I was able to pick up several new mults so it paid
to stick it out. I had my doubts after setting my alarm clock and getting
up early to work the last 2 hours of the contest.
As much as I tried to correct them, only a couple busted my callsign
in this contest.
Thanks to the sponsors for a fun contest and thanks for the contacts.
I appreciate all who tried or were successful at pulling my weak signal
out of the mud. An e-mail reminder sent to one of the contest reflectors
about this contest attracted my attention, so I wanted to give this one
a try. I will be sure to mark it on my calendar for next year.
73,
Phil
