Comments:
My first UHF test from SC. Ran 50 watts to 4 el on 222, 100 watts to 13 wl on
432, 6 watts to loop yagi on 902, 10 watts to loop yagi on 1296, and 10 watts
to loop yagi on 2304. Conditions seemed average summertime except for a little
bit of enhancement south Sunday morning. Three of my 4 furtherest contacts
were into Florida, N4TUT 440 miles on 432, K0VXM 480 miles on 222 and 432, and
W4HY 500 miles on 432. My only sked, K3TUF was 450 miles on 222 and 432. My
most exciting contacts, however, were with WJ9B 375 miles in Gainesville FL
where we worked on 222, 432, 902 (my first DX on that band), 1296 (new grid)
and 2304 (my first DX on that band) where Will was running only 1 watt! K4XR
EM64 was another new 1296 grid. We had only 2 rovers (tnx Ron AA4S for 4 grids
on 222, 432, and 1296). K4SHG/R also activated a few grids on 432 as he drove
from Florida to his home QTH. In order to compete nationally, we need a lot
more rovers in the Carolinas and nearby states. Thanks for all the Qs, and I
promise to have a better 222 antenna (and 6M antenna to replace my 5 el on 12'
boom) by the Sept VHF test.
