Comments:
An interesting outing! I thought everything was working fine after the ARRL DX
CW last weekend, but that was not to be! Something went haywire with the
computer interface, so I spent most of the first two hours ripping things
apart, finding nothing wrong, and then putting everything back together -- and
it still didn't work! Outside, the western EWE didn't work, even though I
thought I had fixed it.
When I finally got going, the going was pretty good, although the condx Friday
night were pretty bad. I stuck it out until 0600z or thereabouts when I
couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. Taking your kid to swim team
practice at 6 am the same day is not a recommended activity!
Came back Saturday night after a full day of family activities. Conditions were
better, but the static was awesome. Although it needs some more tweaking, the
Orion worked very well in digging out those marginal signals.
At ~0200z, the band seemed to open to the west, thankfully. Collapsed again at
0600z and didn't get back until the last two hours on Sunday, which made up for
the first two lost ones.
In the end, it was a hard slog, but enjoyable. I now understand why so
many prefer CW contests over the SSB ones :-)
CU Next Time!
