Comments:
This is the forth year I have participated in this contest and the forth year
that for one reason or another I did not finish. (Computer virus at work, power
outage at the QTH, had to leave on Saturday for on a business trip) This year I
just quit when the south Texas QRN levels went up to S7 with very frequent
crashes over S9+10db....on the beverages.
The start was nothing but outstanding. For the first three hours I had
consistent 10 minute rate bursts over 120 with the highest at 155. My best 60
minute rate was 112. For my QTH that is GREAT !! Well... enter the QRN
and.... the stations with the KEY CLICKS. (Some stations had clicks +/- 5 kcs
from their signal. I just don't understand why this continues to be a problem
year after year. PLEASE - if you are running one of the MPs - before the CQ 160
test, take a few hours and install either the Inrad of W8JI mod. Everyone will
thank you!!) So at about 02:45 UTC I just quit.....made a drink and turned on
the television. I got up this morning at 10:00 UTC to see if conditions had
changed...nope. Went back to bed.
Hope the conditions are better in the CQ 160 in January.
