Comments:
Frustating contest. I was using a new computer and 17 inch monitor (so my old
eyes could see the print). I set everything up and checked with neighbor KA0CT
before the start, who reported my signal and audio sounded very good. But
murphy wouldn't be denied. The whole contest I fought with a low level audio
hum and apologize for my signal which at times was not real good. I spent over
an hour of the 32 hours operating time redoing the cabling and connecting
various grounds, but the intermittant problem was never solved. Conditions:
Better and worse than expected. After working 10 Russians and a googal of
Eastern Europeans on 160M during the week, I scribed on the 160M reflector that
the contest might see my first ever low power 160M contest contact with Europe.
HAW! I never even heard Europe and could barely hear the eastern U.S. The QRN
from the approaching storm was so bad that even 40M was barely usable Friday
night. And 80M was almost as bad and 160M as impossible. QRN Saturday night
was still bad. The higher bands were better than expected, but not great. It
was only during the last few minutes of the contest that I worked SM and OH on
15M. Never heard them on 10M. CU in the CQWWCW, both SS, and the 160M and 10M
tests (whew!).
