Comments:
A good training before WAECW.
Back to the SO2R "old style", as in 2002, with two linked PCs which avoid some
confusion. Managed to do 80 2nd radio q. in the first 7/8 hrs, but condx,
already poor at the beginning, were getting worse more and more. With K-index
peaking at 6/7, bands seemed to be in/out for most of contest and 2nd radio
barefoot didn't help so much. Moreover a T-storm hit my area and produced a
constant s-9/9+ qrn between 12 and 20utc. This didn't help my rate as I had to
ask several times for call/numbers and sometimes I couldn't copy..as happened
with OH8T...I didn't hear him for the rest of the contest...and then I realized
he was EU-184...!!!!!!
Anyway during the afternoon 15m were quite open towards JA and USA and 20m
produced some loud US and some good rates.
After the T-storm I had a couple of hours at 80/90 q/hr on 40/80m with eu's but
some loud ja's also called me on 40m.
And then it was aurora.....as everybody I had to fight against fluttery and weak
signals....40m suffered a lot..US were making domestic qso's, HI8RV was weak and
couldn't break his US pile, the only loud from west was CO8ZZ 15db over...so I
spent all the night on 80 where US were really loud since some lp/dipole stn had
a solid s-7 here. HI8RV was louder on 80m and got me at the first call.
During the last six hrs I tried to work as much as possible of those elusive EU
IOTA on 20 and 15.
Around 10z 10m opened and gave me some new meat.
Last thrill was FK/KM9D on 20m at 11z, never heard that area so loud at this
time!
With worst condx I also met the worst man of the contest:IV3SKB for his
deliberate qrm on top of me, at least he definitely showed the best use of a
3CX3000 tube....
