Comments:
I met my goal (doing better than last year) in all key numbers: more
QSOs, states + provinces, countries, and score. Conditions generally
good except for short intervals of p-static. Worked a few EUs Sat.,
in the hours experience and propagation forecasts would predict: 06-
0730Z. Next day, Sun. 0205Z, when I was running Ks and NOT expecting
many EUs, an HA called me; OK, nice. Then, I was instantly at the
bottom of an EU pileup. In the next 27 minutes I worked 21 EUs, 10
EU multipliers, one VE mult (NS), and 28 total QSOs. In 4 years of
160 contesting I've never seen anything like it: the curtains parted,
the propagation gods smiled, the D layer evaporated, and 160 sounded
like 40 meters, but only for half an hour. I assume the big-gun 160
stations must have runs like this, but with my inverted L and single
half-wave reversible baby Beverage this was something new. Made 16
more EU QSOs and 5 EU mults. plus 7 NA QSOs 0520-0630Z Sun., H&P, but
not again anything like the 0200Z run. Missed only ND in the contig.
48 states, but the openings to W7 were briefer than in 2003. The CQ
160 CW contest has always been one of my favorites, but is now even
more so. See you next year!
