Comments:
I think this record breaking sprint is a touching tribute to those we lost these
last several days. My condolences to those close to Jim, Cathy, and Sandy.
Bill, what an amazing score! And congrats to the field of contesting
"heavies"
hot on your tail.
Since the Caltech station is suffering various equipment maladies lately I
decided to go back to basics and operate SO1R. Certainly for me it was a good
decision. This is the only the second time I have crossed into the hallowed
ground of 300 QSOs. My first time was back in '88 when I finally got to use my
page 7. When after two hours my QSO total was 179 I sensed things were really
going well. And the multipliers kept rolling in! My apologies to Sam, VESF,
who got beat out by VE4YU after both sent their calls several times. Since I
copied VE4 before VE5SF came through I made the quick decision to pull the VE4
out first because I felt I would find Sam again and not 'YU. Luckily this was
the case. I guess this decision occurred because I haven't worked a VE4 in a
sprint for a long time. It is amazing to me how we all make these kinds of
judgements all the time.
My final QSO total was 336 including two dupes. With K5GO calling me in the
last 5 minutes with AR I got my best ever multiplier total to boot. And having
never been over 14500 points, reaching 17k seems unbelievable to me! And
still
75 QSOs off the leader!!
What a great sprint!! Thanks to everyone for the QSOs and for sticking with me
during my brain fades. Using a keyboard with a unfamiliar layout is not
recommended.
73, David, N6AN
