COMMENTS:
My best score so far but still behind the record score of 8062
set by ZL4CC (Bob G3PJT) in 2001.
Got off to a great start this year and was looking forward to
an even bigger score but lost some momentum on Sunday night -
probably a combination of tiredness and poorer conditions.
The high bands were in good shape - especially on Saturday
night. However on Sunday night there was a strong echo on
15m/10m signals which made high speed copy difficult.
80m was definitely down on previous years - even the usually
reliable long path opening around 0630z was only marginal. I
noted outstanding 80m signals from GM3POI, G4BUO and G0IVZ.
The highlight was working a bunch of African stations - ZS6QU,
ZS6KR, 9J2BO and 9G5AA.
Thanks to the Contest Committee for the earlier finish time.
However I still did not get home until 1:00 am on Monday
morning - after packing up and then driving back from ZL6QH.
Needless to say I took the day off work on Monday!
The PC that I used for logging failed when I switched it on at
home to check the log. Fortunately I had saved a backup of the
log onto a floppy diskette!
Thanks to everyone for the QSOs, the Contest Committee for the
fun contest, VK4EMM for the Quickscore software, G3PJT for the
excellent publicity and the Wellington Amateur Radio Club for
the use of the ZL6QH station.
